Kent Interhall Council revealed the 2023 schedule for its annual Sex Week, a week of events dedicated to educating students about sex in an interactive environment – with a “Wild West” theme.
Joshua Outman, director of programming for KIC, encouraged students to attend the week of events, which runs from Oct. 23 to Oct. 27.
“The goal of Sex Week is to provide educational opportunities for students to learn about sex, but it’s also about having fun,” he said.
During the week, there will be various events for students to attend.
Monday, Oct. 23
The kickoff starts with a classic event, “Kondoms on the K,” which includes a condom fairy handing out free condoms, Sex Week schedules and prizes from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Risman Plaza.
“Sex Week Ho Down” will occur later in the Kent Student Center Ballroom at 7 p.m.. The Ho Down is a nod to this year’s Wild West theme and will feature dancing, food and games.

On the second day, a sexual assault awareness event called “Green Dot” will take place at 3 p.m. in Studio A in the Twin Towers. This event is run with the Center for Sexual and Relationship Violence Support Services on campus.

“Sex in the Dark,” an anonymous event where experts will be answering questions about sex, will be held at 7 p.m. in the Cartwright Auditorium.
Friday, Oct. 27
KIC will hold educational events like its “Self-Defense Class” at 11 a.m. in the Recreation and Wellness Center.
Sex Week will also include “I <3 Female Orgasm,” an informational session about female sexual health, for the first time since 2020. It will be held at 4 p.m. in the KSC Ballroom.
The week of events will conclude in the KSC Ballroom at 7 p.m. with “Sextoberfest,” a night filled with educational games and free prizes, food and T-shirts.
Jazae Smith, executive director of KIC, said it’s important for Sex Week to include entertaining themes and events in order to keep students engaged.
“When people hear the word educational, the interest for it dies down,” Smith said. “If I know I can go to an informational session wearing buttless chaps and a cowboy hat, it makes everything a little bit more fun.”
