A recent 18-year-old graduate of Kent Theodore Roosevelt High School is now in custody after threatening “to blow up the school” in a social media post Thursday, said Michael Lewis, administrative lieutenant with the Kent Police Department.
Lewis said law enforcement found the “quickly identified” male suspect was found outside of the city of Kent. The message of the threat was “pretty vague.”
Lewis said the threat was reported to the Kent Police Department shortly after 1 p.m., and the department sent additional officers to the high school as an “added safety measure,” in addition to the school’s on campus resource officer.
The department worked closely with school officials, and since the suspect was not found in Kent, they didn’t send the school into lockdown, he said.
The department is currently conducting interviews and an investigation. If there are criminal charges, Lewis said Kent police will release the suspect’s information and any pending charges.
This is an updating story.
