The Kent State wrestling team left Saturday afternoon with losses to Gardner-Webb, Buffalo and Chattanooga.
In the first event, KSU fell to a 28-11 loss against Gardner-Webb. In the second matchup, Kent State dropped its conference matchup to Buffalo 25-15. Chattanooga got the blowout win in the final matchup for a 38-3 final.
The Flashes were coming off their Navy Classic event on Nov. 18, with sophomore Blake Schaffer wrestling to a fifth-place finish.
KSU is now 0-5 overall. The team is 0-2 on the road.
Saturday’s winners
In the Gardner-Webb matchup, Kent State won in three weight categories. Sophomore Billy Meiszner won 3-0 in the 141-pound matchup.
Sophomore Keegan Knapp won by a final score of 4-0 in the 157-pound matchup.
Junior Aaron Ferguson followed suit, getting back-to-back wins for the Flashes with a 4-0 victory for the 165-pound slot.
This would be all Kent State could put together in the event, as the team tallied 11 total points. Gardner-Webb tallied 23 points, winning in seven weight categories.
In the Buffalo matchup, Kent State put up more points against its conference opponent but fell short of the win.
Meiszner collected another win – this time for a 4-0 victory.
KSU did not earn another win until the 197-pound matchup, with Schaffer getting a 5-0 win.
Sophomore Josh Boggan finished the event with a 6-0 win for the Flashes in the 285-pound match.
Buffalo would win in seven out of the 10 weight matches, getting five wins in a row during the event, tallying 25 points compared to Kent State’s 15.
In the final event, Kent State fell to Chattanooga 38-3.
The Flashes were scoreless until the 184-pound match thanks to freshman Kyle Snider getting a 3-0 win. This would be all Kent State could muster as Chattanooga won in all of the rest of the weight matchups.
Meiszner would finish Saturday afternoon 2-1 out of all three matchups.
Back Home
The Flashes are back home Friday in the M.A.C. Center to face off against Virginia Military Institute.
In the programs’ only matchup, Kent State won in a 44-3 win.
The Flashes hit the mats at 1 p.m.
