Dawan R. Wilson, the homicide suspect charged with the aggravated murder of a 35-year-old woman in Kent, was arrested in Texas Monday.
The Harris County Sheriff’s Office in Houston contacted Kent police about Wilson’s arrest, according to a Kent Police Department press release.
“We don’t have any details about his arrest, just confirmation he is in custody,” Kent Police administrative lieutenant Michael Lewis said in an email response. “There is an extradition process, and we hope to learn more soon.”
The Kent Police Department’s detective bureau is working to get more details and work on extradition, Lewis said.
Police had been searching for Wilson, a 44 year old from Goodyear, Arizona, since the homicide was reported to the police department around 2 p.m. Nov. 21 at 1323 S. Water St. Lewis told the Record-Courier Nov. 28 the victim was pregnant, so additional charges may be filed.
The homicide
A neighbor called the Kent Police Department Nov. 21 after hearing “possible shots fired” from a residence in the same building. When Kent police officers responded to the call, one officer reported he heard a child crying from the apartment. A child attempted to open the door when the officers knocked, but the child could not open the door because it was dead bolted.
Before entering, an officer reported hearing the child say her brother was inside the residence and that “daddy shot” her mother, according to the police report.
When inside the residence, an officer heard a baby crying from the basement. At the bottom of the basement stairs, the officer reported he saw a woman lying face down, according to the report. The woman was “bleeding from the face.” A baby was found in the room crying on a bed.
“The shot female was deceased” and “There was blood splatter moving from the deceased, towards the east side wall,” the report said.
An officer found four pieces of bullet remnants in the basement, according to the report.
The woman was confirmed dead by the paramedics.
