No injuries after shots fired near Kent State Ashtabula campus

Kent State Ashtabula was placed on lockdown Wednesday morning as a precaution after a gunman fired shots near campus. Nobody was injured in the incident, and it does not appear the suspect entered campus.
Ashtabula police chief Robert Stell said officers arrested the gunman in the Westshore Drive neighborhood around half a mile from campus. The university lifted the lockdown shortly after 9:30 a.m.
Ashtabula police asked area schools to enter lockdown around 8:30 a.m. while they searched for a suspect who had fired the gun. Stell said the suspect, a man in his 20’s, allegedly fired the shots following an argument with his family.
“(There was) some kind of a verbal altercation at the house, and then this person left and allegedly, for some reason, fired off some shots outside,” he said. “I don’t have any evidence that he fired at anyone or at anything.”
