William and Fletcher end 2019 gymnastics season at NCAA Regionals
April 7, 2019
Dara Williams and Abby Fletcher completed the final two routines of the Kent State Gymnastics team’s season this weekend at the NCAA Regionals.
“We were disappointed that we didn’t qualify as a team but both girls competed really well,” coach Brice Biggin siad. “They both hit great routines and scored very well, I honestly couldn’t be more proud of the way the represented us. I though they represented us with great pride and confidence. They were as good as every other kid there.”
Williams, a senior, scored a 9.825 on the bars, which tied her for 25th place.
“I don’t have any regrets. I’m really happy with today’s competition, we had a great performance,” Williams said. “It was tough to be there as individuals not the whole team but everyone came and supported us. And it felt good.”
Fletcher, a sophomore, was the highest scoring individual competitor on the floor exercise and tied for 12th place with a score of a 9.850.
“The meet today was really fun. It was nice to go out there and represent Kent State. The energy was really great in the arena, people were loud and cheering,” Fletcher said. “I feel like I ended the season great.”
Biggin is not surprised that both of the girls made it so far.
“They’re great competitors and great athletes and great young ladies. I’m really pleased with both of them,” Biggin said.
Biggin said he is very happy for Williams to compete and experience the regionals one more time for her last routine.
“You love to see someone go out with the way she did. She was so consistent for the whole year. I’m proud of her,” he said.
Williams said that her whole experience with Kent State gymnastics is “indescribable,” as she gained so many relationships and learned so much as an athlete.
“I feel like gymnastic has really prepared me for what’s coming next. I’m excited.” Williams said.
