Coming into this season, gymnastics coach Brice Biggin said he was unsure of what to expect from his team. The Flashes went 6-9 last year, finishing fifth in the MAC conference.
The team is seeking a win against the Mountaineers of West Virginia Sunday. The Flashes are 0-3 within the past ten years in matchups with West Virginia. The Flashes are coming off their fifth straight match win.
Biggin said he is extremely excited about his team’s depth and the way they attack any opponent fearlessly. He noted a few standout gymnasts: sophomore Heidi Schultz, senior Kyndall Gilbert and graduate student Karlie Franz.
Franz received a perfect 10 at the Tennessee collegiate classic for her floor routine last Friday. This significantly helped boost the Kent State score to a new school record.
Biggin said that feeling really drove the Flashes in their offseason, and it has shown throughout the first six meets, as they have fallen only a single time to an opponent.
“Our mindset is really good right now — we are competing as a team and having fun,” he said.
