Who doesn’t love, love?
All the laughs, smiles, sweet looks and happy feelings – not to mention the true peace that comes with knowing you and a loved one feel the same way about each other.
Valentine’s Day is the epitome of these feelings, and celebrating the holiday marks a very important time of the year. (Seeing pink, hearts and flowers all around certainly makes dreary February a better time, too).
This season of love is a special time because it sets aside a day for us to truly reflect on all the great people in our lives, whether that be a partner, friend, family member or even an adorable pet.
During the week, we find it can be pretty difficult to put the homework down and turn to our loved ones and say, “I love you,” Valentine’s Day gives us that time to do so.
While the holiday is usually associated with heavy commercialization, from heart-shaped candy boxes to jewelry sales to Chick-Fil-A’s new heart-shaped chicken trays, the point of the day is to celebrate love – and people need that reminder.
When in the routine of a relationship, we know it may be hard for things to feel special, and Valentine’s Day is the perfect opportunity to make your relationship feel special again, and this does not have to be through gifts. A sweet card, note or chat goes a long way, too.
While Valentine’s Day is a great opportunity for romantic couples to demonstrate their love for each other, the holiday is not just for them.
This day is also for showing love to people like your family, friends and other non-romantic loved ones, including yourself. Even if you are single or do not want to be in a romantic relationship, you can still enjoy the day by going out and having fun with your friends, or staying home and enjoying the day with your family.
Valentine’s Day gives us a reason to celebrate the people we love, and it gets a lot of hate because not everyone has a significant other. “Galentines” is a term for when a group of friends get together. These gatherings can include going out to eat, fun crafts or just hanging out. Either way, having a holiday dedicated to being with the people you love can’t hurt.
To the saps who say “Well, you should be loving your people everyday,” yes, we do agree with you. However, who doesn’t want a specific happy-filled day to look forward to every year?
