Lacrosse blow past Howard for second win of season

The Flashes recorded its second win of the season on Sunday with a 17-1 victory over Howard University.

Kent State offense dominated with nine goals in the first 10 minutes of the game, with the Flashes first goal coming from Kelli Bailey 13 seconds into the game.

A minute later Anna Woodhams scored a second goal for Kent State, with the Flashes  increasing their lead to 4-0 on goals from Lluna Katz and Abby Jones.

With a strong offense leading the Flashes in 17 goals, Kent State’s defense held Howard to just one goal. The Bison’s lone goal came from Tiffany Hunt on a free position shot with 14 minutes left of the game. This is the first time Kent has held its opponent to one goal or fewer.

The Flashes overpowering offense scored two back-to-back goals in the seventh and eighth minute mark, and in the ninth and 10 minute mark. Meghan Cawood was assisted by Jones for her third goal of the season. Pilar Lewis was also assisted by Jones for her first goal of the season.

Kent rounded out the first half with 12 goals; the Dlashe tied the program’s record for amount of goals scored in one half. The last time the Flashes scored 12 or more goals in the half was in their first win against Delaware State.

Katz and Cawood lead the team with four goals each,while Jones had three, Woodhams had two.  Bailey, Dean, Lewis and Madison Rapier each had one.

Goalie Grace Merrill had four saves while allowing one goal while Bridgette Kiefer had one save.

Kent State’s next game will be Sat., April 20, at 11 a.m. The Flashes will take on Central Michigan at CMU Lacrosse Complex.
