Fake Patty’s Day is one of Kent’s most popular traditions that takes place each year prior to St. Patrick’s Day, bringing all types of students to Kent for the weekend. 

Themed parties go on from sunrise to sundown, and bars including Water Street Tavern and Ray’s Place have specialty St. Patrick’s Day themed drinks. It’s a day that students look forward to all year long, and the school is known for it throughout the state.

“It is my favorite day of the year,” said Zach Rayz, a senior public relations major. “I love being able to have my friends come to Kent and experience it, but planning an outfit is stressful.” 

Finding an outfit for something like this can be difficult. People never know what other people will wear, and the weather is always an uncontrollable factor. Fake Patty’s Day gives students the chance to express their personal style through a theme.

“My inspiration for this year is those crazy, out-of-pocket TikTok shirts with crazy sayings, because they aren’t really practical for everyday wear, but it’s totally acceptable for Fake Patty’s,” said Joey Meredith, a senior fashion merchandising major.

Meredith said she wants to make people smile and laugh with her outfit this year to spread positivity. She explained how she is DIY-ing her outfit this year, so she has full creative control and can customize it to her liking. 

Ella Robertson, a senior speech pathology major, said she had an outfit planned out, too.

“I picked out an oversized sweatshirt with a skirt and dunks, as long as the weather is good,” she said. “I wanted it to be cute, but still comfy because of how long the day is.” 

Robertson also mentioned that a big trend she saw last year, which she thinks will appear again this year, are big, fun hats and headbands. She said this is smart, because the past two years it’s been snowy.
