Spring break is right around the corner, officially beginning March 25, and students are already planning how they are going to spend their week-long vacation away from school.
Robyn Green, a senior middle childhood education major at the Stark campus, said she is planning to visit her grandparents in Arizona for the week, as she does almost every year.
“[Green’s grandparents] have been going to Arizona for the winter since I was little,” she said. “I love getting to visit them down there, but it can get really hot, even during the winter.”
Green said she’s had a lot of special memories visiting her grandparents and thinks that she’s pretty lucky still being able to visit them.
“There’s a lot of people our age that don’t have their grandparents anymore, so I’m going to enjoy every second I can with mine,” she said.
Some students, like Green, are venturing away over spring break to visit family, or just going on a short vacation, while others, like Kyle Amstutz, are planning on staying home.
“I was planning a trip to England,” he said, “but I recently met a girl and we just started dating, so I’m planning on staying home with her.”
Amstutz, a senior aeronautics major, said he has just enough paid time off from work to take the week off and spend it with his girlfriend.
There are other students that like to keep busy, even on school breaks.
Malcolm Mitchell, a senior psychology major, said he typically travels around the nation, or even internationally to box on a private boxing team and is going to be traveling over his break.
“I’m probably going to be going over to the Dominican Republic or Mexico to box, as well as do some training in Pennsylvania,” he said.
Mitchell said he’s been boxing since he was two, and training under James “Buster” Douglas, the boxer that knocked out professional boxer Mike Tyson.
“On top of boxing, I started an organization on campus called Painted Lyrics, and we typically organize events on campus for fashion, poetry and open mic nights,” he said, “I’m going to be getting ready for our big fashion show [March 26], so I’ll probably be doing model calls and stuff like that.”
He said he plans on continuing to keep his schedule busy over the break week.
