The British ambassador to the United States, Sir Kim Darroch, came to Kent State on a visit to talk to students and faculty in the Moulton Hall ballroom Wednesday.

Darroch discussed Brexit, the possible withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the European Union, as well as President Trump’s upcoming visit to the UK, which is expected to happen in June.

In regards to Brexit, Darroch said he is “confident there will be a deal.” However, he is unsure what that deal will look like.

“Goldman Sachs might say we are losing, but we are doing pretty good, even with Brexit,” he said. “We would love to have the rate of the U.S.”

The visit also had lighthearted moments. Darroch jokingly thanked Americans for creating jobs for the British, referencing the number of British actors on HBO’s series “Game of Thrones.”  

Darroch’s visit, which was part of a tour throughout Ohio, came close to the anniversary of the shooting on Kent State’s campus on May 4. Darroch mentioned the tragedy 49 years ago and said the university has since had a place in his heart.
