After a big loss to open the season a week ago at Pittsburgh, the Kent State football team fell flat in its home opener against FCS’s Saint Francis University, losing 23-17.
Kent State drops to 0-2 (0-0) on the season, while the Red Flash improve to 1-1 (0-0).
Redshirt sophomore quarterback Devin Kargman went 22 for 38 with 193 yards, one touchdown, and one interception.
The leading receiver was graduate student wide receiver Luke Floriea, who took in six catches for 92 yards and one touchdown.
The running game was inefficient, as redshirt senior running back Ky Thomas picked up just 39 yards on 11 carries.
Defensively, the Flashes gave up 402 yards, with its opponents now averaging over 484 yards per game in the young season.
The Red Flash offensive attack was balanced, as they passed for 195 yards and rushed for 207.
The errors for Kent State spread to the special teams unit, as well, with senior kicker Andrew Glass missing a field goal.
The Flashes will travel to Neyland Stadium Saturday to take on No. 14 Tennessee (1-0, 0-0) at 7:45 p.m.
