Theodore Roosevelt High School went into a soft lockdown Thursday morning after reports of a Snapchat post of a student with a gun in their waistband.
According to an email released to parents by Tom Larkin, Kent City Schools superintendent, the Kent Police Department launched an investigation into the report, and the student involved in the post was removed from school grounds.
“The Kent PD has confirmed the social media post was not made on school property,” the email said. “The picture was posted before the student was on school grounds this morning. The Kent PD does not have any evidence the gun was in the school.”
No students were harmed, and the school has resumed normal activities for the remainder of the school day.
Counselors are available to aid students in processing the day’s events, and Kent PD will maintain an additional presence for the remainder of the day.
Larkin also encouraged community members to share any additional information or concerns.
