Dressed with personal flare and lots of accessories, omecoming parade and game attendees showed their school spirit through fashionable outfits.
Early 2000s fashion at homecoming was popular across the board with mini skirts, knee-high boots and baggy jeans. Junior fashion merchandising major Torri Paveloi was one of the parade-goers who styled her look with inspiration from the decade.
“I got this yellow mini skirt from Depop,” Paveloi said. “I just looked up Y2K and found exactly what I was looking for.”
Paired with a blue jersey from Princess Polly, Paveloi reused aspects of her last homecoming outfit.
“I wore the boots last year, and they’re still in great shape,” Paveloi said.
Sophomore exercise science major Holly Peters had similar cowgirl boots and also chose practicality when shopping, taking into account the rainy weather and subsequently muddy grounds.
“My boots were just $10 at Gabe’s,” Peters said. “I know they’ll get trashed, so I didn’t want to spend too much.”
As a fashion merchandising major, Paveloi worked with Peters on their coordinating looks, embodying the motto “Flashes Take Care of Flashes.”
“She’s a fashion major, and she’s my roommate, so I take all inspiration from her,” Peters said.
The two accessorized with yellow and blue bows on their boots and outfits, making the most out of the trend while it’s still popular.
“I just love the bow trend,” Paveloi said. “I think it’s going a bit out of style now, but I just like a little bow here and there.”
Bows were seen on many attendees at homecoming, including a group of three students who wore matching yellow bows on their belt loops.
One member of the trio, sophomore visual communication design major Sophia O’Leary, said she created her look with minimal spending.
“I thrifted this shirt from the Goodwill and cut it, cut the sleeve off,” O’Leary said. “Then I got the ribbon and tied it into my hair, in the back and in the front. Lots of colors.”
Other attendees opted for comfortable but stylish athleisure, like alumna Sydney Evans, who wore an all-blue spandex outfit with yellow socks and chunky sneakers.
“I’m a fan of being both comfortable and stylish,” Evans said. “I love a good sock with sneakers.”
Alumna Aysia Kemp focused on incorporating the university’s colors as she styled her homecoming outfit.
“What inspired my outfit today is kind of just ripped jeans and then throwing on a cutout hoodie over the Kent State [shirt],” Kemp said. “So really, just giving that flavor of blue and gold, but also being able to spice it up a little.”
