If there’s one thing you and I share in common: it’s our love for a good show, and I had the honor of seeing the “SWEAT” Tour with Charli XCX and Troye Sivan!
The “SWEAT” tour brought electrifying energy to Columbus, Ohio on Sept. 20, 2024 at the Nationwide Arena. This highly anticipated co-headlining event transformed the venue into a rave-like experience, with fans immersed in a fusion of hyperpop and electronic beats.
Headlined by Charli XCX and Troye Sivan, the show was part of a larger 21-city North American tour. The event highlighted both artists’ evolution; blending XCX’s hyperpop with Sivan’s laid-back electronic sound to create a truly unforgettable experience. The night was kicked off by Shygirl, whose experimental mix of alt-hip-hop and electronic music set a perfect atmospheric tone for what was to come.
As the lights dimmed, the stage exploded with neon visuals and booming bass lines. Fans erupted when Charli XCX and Sivan took the stage together. A major highlight was their performance of “1999,” a nostalgic anthem that transported the audience back in time. The chemistry between the two artists was undeniable; showing not only their individual talents but also the unique magic they bring as collaborators.
The “SWEAT” tour wasn’t just about the music — it was a celebration of inclusivity. Both Charli XCX and Sivan are prominent LGBTQ+ voices, and this was reflected in the rave-inspired, welcoming atmosphere that made every fan feel part of something bigger. The event was a perfect example of how music can bring together people from all backgrounds under one unifying experience.
One of the standout moments of the night was Charli XCX’s performance of tracks from her album “Brat,” including “Club Classics,” “Guess” and “365.” Her high-energy, club-thumping style had everyone on their feet contrasting with Troye’s more relaxed performances, which offered a welcome respite from the heavy lights and bass. The collaboration between the two artists, particularly on song “1999,” was a clear fan favorite.
While Charli brought the intense lights and thumping beats, Troye balanced it with slower, more emotional tracks. His setlist included songs from his latest album “Something to Give Each Other,” as well as fan favorites from his 2020 “IN A DREAM” EP. Together, the two artists created a seamless flow between energetic party anthems and slower, reflective moments.
One unexpected moment during the night: Charli XCX spitting on stage. It wasn’t on anyone’s bingo card, but it added to the raw, unapologetic energy she brought to her set. Charli’s performance of “Guess featuring Billie Eilish,” was another highlight, even though Billie didn’t make an appearance — her influence was definitely felt.
In the end, the “SWEAT” tour wasn’t just a concert; it was a full sensory experience that left everyone buzzing. With a nearly sold-out stadium of fans, the entire room was alive with energy. The concert was more than just a showcase of music — it was an unforgettable celebration of modern pop, diversity and community.
Not only did the “SWEAT” tour live up to its name by leaving everyone sweaty, but it also made sure everyone left that arena “bumpin’ that.”
