The Kent State football team looked to get in the win column against Ball State but was unable to do so, losing by a score of 37-28 Saturday.
KSU’s overall record is 0-6 (0-2) while Ball State improves to 2-4 (1-2) on the season..
The Flashes fell down early, finding themselves in a 10-0 deficit in the first quarter, but on the first play of the second quarter, junior quarterback Tommy Ulatowski found redshirt sophomore receiver Chrishon McCray for a 24-yard touchdown to cut the lead to 10-7.
McCray finished the day with eight receptions for a career-high 156 yards and three touchdowns, another career high.
The Flashes’ defense allowed the Cardinals to score the game’s next 17 points, leaving Kent State down 27-7 at halftime.
The Flashes however, showed fight, scoring 14 straight points to cut the lead to 27-21 with 6:19 left in the game, but Ball State was able to push the lead back to two possessions three minutes later with a field goal, making the score 30-21.
The Flashes raced down the field and scored a touchdown, cutting the lead to 30-28, but the onside kick was unsuccessful, and the Cardinals scored on the ensuing possession.
With KSU down nine, the Flashes got a 57-yard McCray touchdown to cut the lead to 37-35 with half a minute left, but after another onside kick was unsuccessful, the Cardinals kneeled out the clock.
Though the Kent State defense gave up over 400 yards again, the team scored a season-high 35 points and gained a season-high 461 yards.
The Flashes will hit the road at 3:30 p.m. next Saturday to face the Bowling Green State Falcons (2-3, 1-0).
