The U.S. Department of Justice announced today it will monitor federal voting rights laws during early voting and on Election Day in Portage County.
Residents filed complaints with federal and state authorities after a post from Portage County Sheriff Bruce Zuchowski, a Republican, sparked concerns of voter intimidation. Zuchowski’s since-deleted Facebook post encouraged Portage County residents to write down the addresses of homes with signs in support of Democratic-nominee Kamala Harris.
A news release from the Justice Department said it regularly deploys its staff to monitor for compliance with federal civil rights laws in elections in communities all across the country.
This is a developing story.
