Water services will be shut off in Student Center, Korb Hall Friday
March 8, 2019
A water line break will cause water services to be shut off in the Student Center and Korb Hall for about four hours on Friday afternoon.
The university sent an email saying water services will be shut off at 2 p.m. to facilitate repairs to the line.
Kent State’s electrical and mechanical trades division of University Facilities Management is handling the repair.
Maintenance employees were outside around 12:30 p.m. working on the issue. They opened a fire hydrant behind the Student Center to clear out water.
“We’ll probably open up a couple more (hydrants),” said John Nidzsche, a maintenance worker.
Nidzsche said the water line broke because of cold weather.
Shannon Booher, another maintenance worker, said the repair should take at least an hour.
Students needing shower services can use the individual pods at Leebrick Hall.
The Student Center dining facilities will close at 1 p.m. The university encouraged students to seek nearby dining options at the Eastway Center and Tri-Towers.
The email also warned repairs may affect services in the University Library, in which case it suggested students needing restroom facilities go to the Kiva, Williams Hall or the Eastway Center.
Normal operations are expected to resume Saturday morning.
