Delta Tau Delta’s central office issued a cease and desist notice to its Kent State Delta Omega chapter, instructing the chapter to stop all fraternity-related activities.

“The university subsequently issued a similar notice — to cease all fraternity activities — to the chapter and began investigating allegations of conduct disruptive to the university,” said Eric Mansfield, the executive director of University Media Relations, in an email.

Kent State has not released any more information. It is unknown what caused the cease and desist notice to be issued.

Lt. Michael Lewis of the Kent Police Department said there haven’t been any reports filed. “There were allegations made and we are looking into it, but nothing concrete to report at this time,” Lewis said.

Michael Trauman, the Delta Omega chapter president, said in a voicemail to direct all questions to the Delta Tau Delta central office. The central office issued a press release regarding the cease and desist. 

“On February 28, the Central Office of Delta Tau Delta placed its Kent State Chapter on an interim suspension to review its internal operations,” according to the press release. “The Central Office and chapter are working in partnership with the Kent State University administration on this matter. The suspension will be lifted once the review is complete.”

The Kent State Interfraternity Council also did not respond to a request for comment.

Delta Tau Delta was in the news in fall of 2018 after the city of Kent ordered members to take down a bed sheet sign that violated Kent’s city zoning codes.
