Kent State Leadership will be hosting a KentTalks event on Wednesday discussing the #MeToo movement.

The annual event will focus on the topic of consent and the controversies behind the #MeToo movement in small groups.  

In these small groups students will have the opportunity to talk about their perspectives on the topic.

Jennifer O’Connell, the director of the Sexual and Relationship Violence Support Services (SRVSS), is facilitating some of these groups.

”Knowing that sexual violence is around us and pretending like it’s not happening isn’t going to help anybody,” O’Connell said. “The #MeToo movement has … gotten people to talk about sexual and relationship violence mostly on sexual violence, sexual assault, sexual harassment.“

The event will be in the Student Center in Room 220 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

KentTalks is “a space for students to have constructive dialogue across differences around controversial contemporary issues,” said Christian Hightower, the assistant director for Student Leadership Development.  

In past years, KentTalks held discussions about microaggressions and the impact on campus, as well as another event, “Let’s Talk about Trump,” where students discussed the country’s political climate.
