Today may be National “Skip the Straw Day,” but businesses all over downtown Kent have been using more environmental friendly alternatives to plastic straws for quite some time.

Paper straws are becoming more common for restaurants in all areas and Kent is a big supporter of the idea.

Local pizza shop, Belleria, has been using paper straws for the past six months.

The paper straws have helped eliminate unnecessary trash, helping to take better care of the environment.

Along with Belleria, other local businesses such as Tree City Coffee have also adapted to using paper straws.

Businesses have also begun selling metal, reusable straws for customers who are not big fans of paper straws.

Businesses like Belleria hope that by getting rid of unnecessary trash and the use of plastic, we can help make our environment a little bit cleaner for ourselves and even the animals that live here.
