Graduate student Patrick Bell centers his work around “the icon of the home.” His pieces often include elements of clay and a household material, such as a wooden cabinet, a metal doorknob or a suitcase.

Related to the icon of the home, Bell considers ideas such as “moving that (he) did as a child … what the home is, what creates a home structure, home is where the heart is, home isn’t a physical object” and more. He also connects the ideas of the home and moving to his late father.

“Those moments become all the more important for me to immortalize and fit into my work,” Bell said.
