Marie Bukowski art 2

Before Bukowski decided to pursue a career in art, she was equally enthralled by art and mathematics. Although it’s less present in this collection of pieces, Bukowski based her art on mathematical theory for the last 10 years, she said. But she does see that basis come through in this piece, “Cold Memories; Warm Dreams #25.”
Bukowski views mathematics as a way to define space in her art. On the left side of this piece, there is a natural leaf pattern. On the right side, there is a leaf pattern displayed through “harsh geometric shapes.”
“(I was) trying to emulate something that’s a little bit more organic, though still thinking about fractals and patterning and natural patterns that happen in nature that come as a result of mathematics,” Bukowski said.
