After the finish of a successful fall season that saw the Kent State women’s golf team move up up in the the national rankings, the Flashes are hoping their work throughout the winter will help contribute to success in the spring.

The Flashes had a season filled with first and second place finishes.

“We were very happy with the way they played and competed this fall,” coach Greg Robertson said. “We faced some of the top teams in college golf and came away with two wins and two runner-up team finishes, along with two individual wins. With an overall record of 55-2, we had fewer overall losses than any other team. We were in the Top-10 in the country in seven different statistical categories.”

The Flashes performance as a whole — along with some stellar performances from a few Flashes— helped Kent State jump some teams in the rankings.

“We were really happy with everyone on the team from top to bottom.” Robertson said. “This is without a doubt the most competitive team we’ve had since I have been here, and it’s raised the level of play from everyone. All eight players are averaging under 75 in tournament-play, including four that are under 73. Michaela Finn has been the most consistent player for us this fall, but everyone has contributed quite a bit.”

The Flashes had a new high score this season because of two of their older players.

“Michaela (Finn) and Karoline (Stormo) tied for the individual win in Chicago, which led to a record-breaking team score.” Robertson said.

Kent State women’s golf is ranked number three in the Top-10 statistical rankings from this fall with an average score of 72.38.

“They have shown that they have a lot of potential to be one of the best teams in the country.” Robertson said. “Hopefully they’ll carry the momentum from this fall right into the spring season.”

The women will start their spring season on Feb. 3, 2019 at the UCF Challenge in Orlando, Florida.
