Kent State Stark campus was filled with different rhythms and sounds this weekend as they celebrated Guitar Weekend, a three-day festival celebrating all styles of guitar playing.

The weekend event kicked off on Thursday evening with the Marc Teicholz Concert and continued through Saturday afternoon with different musical performances including the Mobius Trio Concert, a faculty recital featuring Andrew Stroud and a community concert featuring the McKinley High School Guitar Ensemble, the Canton Youth Guitar Ensemble and various Kent State Stark music students.

The weekend contained many guitar enthusiasts on stage and in the crowd, including Jake Logozzo, a junior music technology major.

Logozzo has been playing guitar for eight years and joined the music technology program because it was open to many different instruments, which he found to be rare in other universities.

“If I wasn’t in this program, I wouldn’t be in college,” Logozzo said. “I’ve always wanted to do something in music.”

Logozzo attended Guitar Weekend in hopes of seeing different styles of guitar and music.

“The weekend shows so many of the things you can do with different styles of guitars and it helps to showcase some of the Kent Stark Music Technology Program,” said Logozzo. “It also brings together musicians of all calibers.”

George Dean, a music teacher for Canton City Schools, directed the McKinley Senior High Guitar Ensemble, along with the Kent CCP Ensemble.

“There have been so many cool experiences for the kids and I really believe this has made a tremendous impact,” Dean said.

The event was held in different locations throughout the weekend and was free to the community.
