The Kent State men’s golf team finished in fourth out of 14 schools at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate Golf Tournament with a score of 839.

The Flashes were only 7 strokes away from first place team East Tennessee State, and were 52 ahead of last place team Villanova.

This has been the Flashes first time finishing top five this season.

The Flashes won the second round with the low score of 275 compared to Eastern Tennessee State which had 279.

The team maintained low scores through the first two rounds with scores as low as 66 for both rounds. The third round scores went up, but the team managed to stay consistent enough to claim their spot.

The team’s third round scores were all in the 70s range which in turn made their final scores higher, ultimately putting them in fourth.

Senior Bjarki Petursson and freshman Johnny Travale tied for 12th with 209 along with two other men from Tennessee and Eastern Tennessee State.

Sophomore Will Kurtz tied for 22nd with 213 alongside six other men in the tournament. Sophomore Josh Gilkison tied for 29th with two other men with 214 and senior Gisli Sveinbergsson tied for 63rd with two other men with 222.

Each player stays consistent in their strokes for the most part which has allowed them to continue to place in the top ten of tournaments so far this season.

The Flashes next tournament of the season will be Oct. 22-23 at the Royal Oaks Invitational in Dallas, Texas.
