Kent State shot 19-over par to garner a 10th place finish at the NCAA Championships.

The Flashes were sitting in eighth heading into the final round. They were shooting 8-over par, but they finished the final round shooting 11-over par to finish at 19-over par as a team.

Inconsistent play plagued the Flashes during the tournament as they finished the first round at even par after a three-hour rain delay. Senior Chase Johnson finished the day at 4-under par. Freshman Josh Gilkison was next in line as he shot 1-under, while senior Ian Holt shot went 1-over.

During the second day, Johnson again shot under par, finishing the day at 1-under. Holt again shot 1-over. Gilkison shot 3-over. Junior Bjarki Petursson shot 2-over par and junior Gisli Sveinbergsson improved on a shaky 10-over first round with a 1-over second round.

Kent State was unable to make match play, finishing two strokes off the final qualifying spot held in 8th place by Texas A&M. The team combined to shoot their tournament-worst 299 on the final day.

On the final day at Karsten Creek, no team finished under par. Kent State had their tournament-low 10 birdies on the day.

Johnson led the way, finishing tied for 15th at even par after shooting 2-over par in the final round of the tournament.

Holt and Petursson both finished at 7-over par, which was good enough for 37th. Holt was able to catch Petursson as he finished the final round with a 1-over par, getting a par or lower on 15 holes. Petursson had a decent final round at 3-over par. Petursson had less success on the final day; he was the only member of the team to shoot under par during the previous round.

Two other Flashes finished tied on the day. Gilkison and Sveinbergsson both shot 5-over par. Gilkison finished in a tie for 57th after finishing 12-over par. Sveinbergsson shot 16-over par, finishing 69th.

Only Gilkison and Sveinbergsson suffered their worst rounds of the tournament on the final day.

The Flashes will look to their underclassmen in the off-season as they attempt to build off this season.
