The debate will be hosted by the College of Nursing on April 16 from 6-8 p.m. in the Schwartz Auditorium.

Students from a variety of majors will be participating in the discussion about the public health policy what the government’s most important role should be in the opioid epidemic.

“One of the greatest responsibilities we have as citizens is to openly embrace our freedom to discuss and respond to the issues that challenge the communities we live in. The opioid crisis touches all of us in one way or another,” said Kimberly Cleveland, a professor and event adviser.

With students ranging from public relations to biology majors, the debate will cover many points of view.

“This challenge gives us the ability to unite across age groups, party lines and philosophical differences to strengthen our community,” Cleveland said.

The planning and restoration of societal health will be at the forefront of the discussion.

The event is sponsored by the College of Nursing and the Kent State Speech and Debate Team and will be open to the public.
