“BUS at 50,” a photography exhibit, will become open to the public at the Uumbaji gallery in Oscar Ritchie Hall from Feb. 20 to March 14.

Founded in 1968, one of the oldest student organizations on campus, Black United Students will celebrate its 50 year anniversary.

The exhibit will feature photography from the collection of photographs by E. Timothy Moore, Lafayette Tolliver and others.

The photos present the chronological development and programming of BUS over its 50 years of existence.

With Professors Lae’l Hughes-Watkins and Idris Kabir Syed spearheading the event, “BUS at 50” includes photographs of African-American student life ranging from the 1960s to 2015. The pictures cover diverse events including iconic national figures speaking on campus to student-led protests and social events.

The opening reception goes from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 23 in the Uumbaji gallery located at Oscar Ritchie Hall.
