Commuter Appreciation week will take place Feb. 19 through Feb. 22.

The festivities will extend over a four day period in the Student Center.

With the exception of Monday’s event taking place on the third floor, all other events will be hosted on the second floor.

Rebecca Blaha is an assistant director for the Kent Student Center programming. Blaha oversees commuter services and was a lead force in organizing the week’s events.  

“We have a week like this once every semester,” Blaha said. “It gives commuters a chance to stop by and collect information. They also get snacks and can win giveaways.”

Each day will focus on a different subject relevant to commuter students.

Monday will promote COSO, the Commuter and Off-Campus Student Organization at Kent State.

Tuesday will give students ideas about how to get involved on campus.

Dining Services will attend Wednesday’s event to educate commuters about the upcoming changes in meal plans.

Thursday will focus on the dangers of distracted driving. Portage County Department of Transportation will be present with a distracted driving simulator. The Kent State University Police Department will offer students the opportunity to play Mario Kart while wearing OVI goggles.

Blaha said snacks will be offered daily. Car shaped sugar cookies, and an ice cream sundae bar are just a few of the treats students can enjoy.
