Artist Shake the Plug will host the first “Final Days” anti-violence concert at Kent State Saturday, Dec. 9 at 7 p.m. in Oscar Ritchie Hall to spread awareness about domestic abuse.

The show will be dedicated to Devin Moore, a senior journalism student who died unexpectedly Wednesday.

There are 16 performances scheduled, including some of Kent State’s very own, and a few guest speakers are yet to be announced.

A portion of the proceeds will go to the Laura Cowan Foundation, which helps women and children who are victims of domestic violence.

The event is free, but the organization and Cowan are asking for monetary donations.

“A lot of songs that are being sung by some performers are based upon domestic violence or how to stop the violence,” Cowan said.

She believes that more discussion about domestic violence should happen outside of its awareness month in October.

“Women are losing their lives 365 days a year, not just the month of October,” she said.

Cowan expressed her gratitude to Shake the Plug for hosting the event outside of October and contributing in keeping the conversation going.

“When these guys (the performers) said they wanted to do something now, I thought that was great,” she said. “Why wait until next year?”
