Kent State fraternities and sororities will compete during Chi Omega’s annual philanthropy event, Chi Factor, to support the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

The event, set to take place Saturday, Oct. 21, will be held in Cartwright Hall. The doors will open to the public at 6:30 p.m. 

Chi Factor is loosely based off of the show “The X Factor,” Sydney Noveske, a junior nutrition major and chapter president said.

Noveske joined Chi Omega in the fall of 2014, the year the chapter started doing Chi Factor.

“Besides raising money for an amazing organization, I love how much fun the event is,” Noveske said. “I mean, who doesn’t enjoy watching guys sing and dance to Aladdin’s ‘A Whole New World?’”

Each fraternity and sorority chapter can submit a team of up to five people for the event. The teams prepare a song for each of the two categories. This year’s categories are “Hits of the 2000s” and “Wild Card.”

After the first round of performances, the judges will select half of the contestants with the highest scores to return to sing their second-round song.

Awards will be given to the top three winners for each fundraising, performance, and overall winners.

This year, Chi Omega has been in touch with local families who have been helped by Make-A-Wish to attend the event. These are families with children that have life-threatening illnesses who have had wishes granted.

“I’d love to get them more involved from now on so the Greek community can get a similar Make-A-Wish experience that Chi O’s get,” Noveske said.

For more information or to purchase a ticket, Chi Omega will be holding “Wish Tables” in the Student Center Monday through Thursday from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. Tickets for the event cost $8 for presale and $10 at the door.
