Kent State’s inaugural Leadership Week starts Monday, Oct. 23 and encourages students to develop their leadership styles and initiate personal growth through a range of events held in the Student Center.

Development sessions and relaxation events create an environment for students to discover their personal leadership values. Students also receive a raffle ticket to win prizes including a Fitbit or an Amazon FireTV at each event they attend.

Certain events require registration, including Monday’s team building Beat the Clock Challenge, Friday’s informational Lunch & Learn with administrators and Saturday’s Make A Difference Day.

Christian Hightower, the recently named first assistant director for leadership development in the Center for Student Involvement, coordinates Leadership Week as part of his new position.

“We want to break the idea that leadership is only for those in authority, ” Hightower said. “It’s important that people understand how their leadership values add to a team dynamic.”

This week’s events are designed to enhance students’ leadership identities through skills workshops and stimulating conversation, better preparing them to be active leaders in their own lives, group organizations and communities.
