Over the next two weeks, the Kent African Student Association will continue to engage its community with the beauty of Africa via Instagram. 

Beginning the week of March 29, KASA launches its 26th annual African Night. The annual event displays multiple aspects of African culture and introduces elements of fashion, music and entertainment. 

The theme for African Night this year will be ‘Coming to Africa,’ a subtle take on the 2021 sequel to “Coming to America.” 

“We’re going to take a dive deep into different countries from the regions of Africa,” said the vice president of KASA, Lillah Tolbert. “We want you to feel like you’re in Africa virtually.”

To accommodate for COVID-19 restrictions, KASA will present African Night over Instagram. Throughout the week, KASA will share featured performers and information relating to African Night.

“You can definitely expect great music and entertainment for sure,” she said. “We’re bringing an assortment of skits, dance acts and a fashion show.” 

One of the acts expected to perform at African Night is ASE Xpressions, a female dance troupe from Kent State.

KASA welcomes everyone to partake in its festivities. The overall goal for the event is to engage the audience on the beauty of Africa. Since the event will be streamed virtually, the message of African Night will be more accessible for guests to obtain. 

“It’s a night to have people experience our culture for a week,” Tolbert said.
