The No. 11 Kent State men’s golf team finished 21st in the NCAA Championship with a 17-over par total score of 881 (289-293-299). 

“We never really got any momentum going this week,” said coach Herb Page to Kent State Athletics. “But I’m proud of these guys, they kept fighting and they never gave up. We even made a little run this morning. This is still one of the best seasons we’ve ever had. They are all great young men and I’m very proud of them. We will be back.”

Sophomore Bjarki Petursson was the team’s leading scorer at par 216. During round three, Petursson ended with a score of 79, which took him out of competition for an individual championship. 

Junior Chase Johnson and Sophomore Gisli Sveinbergsson both finished 16-over par at 232. Sveinbergsson golfed a 76 on Sunday, while Johnson golfed 78.

Senior Josh Whalen finished his Kent State career shooting a 6-over par score of 222. He had the best round on Sunday, shooting an even par 72. Junior Ian Holt, the Mid-American Conference Golfer of the Year, shot 8-over par at 224.
