The Kent Police Department posted on its Facebook page, urging the community to be cautious of drugs in public bathrooms.

Friday afternoon a Sheetz employee made a phone call to the Kent Police Department for a report of suspicious drug activity.

Officer Mitch Smith described the scene in a full report that stated seeing a man in a bathroom stall at the Sheetz on North Mantua Street, where he was injecting himself with heroin on a baby changing table.

Lieutenant Michael Lewis said in a statement that “the suspect had transferred what we believed to be blood transferred on to the baby changing station, as well as some residue that we suspect to be possibly heroin or fentanyl.”

The suspect was later identified as Jason Fischer. Fischer was on Portage County’s Most Wanted Fugitives list. Fischer is now under arrest for his warrant, possession of drug abuse instruments and possession of drug paraphernalia.

“This would be a good idea to make the public aware of this type of activity,” Lewis said. “… for the safety of the public to make everyone aware that this type of thing is going on in public restrooms, especially in gas stations, and this can be very dangerous places and we want everybody to be safe.”

The department posted to make the public aware of what is going on in Kent and also to be cautious of entering public places. If you or someone else has suspicions of drug activity, please call your local police station.
