Kent State women’s golf team won the Henssler Financial Intercollegiate Golf Tournament on Tuesday.
The two-day tournament was hosted in Kennesaw, Georgia, on Monday and Tuesday.
The Flashes finished 12 strokes above par, one stroke ahead of Purdue University, which came in second place.
“We did well,” coach Greg Robertson said. “We beat four teams in the top 50 at the tournament.”
The Flashes are ranked No. 13 in the NCAA and defeated both No. 24 Purdue and No. 27 Texas Tech University at the tournament.
“Two wins in a row is always a good thing,” Robertson said. “We came out on top, and that’s what good teams do. We didn’t necessarily get off to the best start, but we took care of ourselves and what we needed to do.”
Freshman Pimnipa Panthong led the Flashes as she tied for first place. Senior Wad Phaewchimplee also placed in the top 10, tied for eighth. Tuesday’s tournament marked the second career win for Panthong, who also won the Mercedes-Benz Intercollegiate during the fall semester.
The Flashes have won two consecutive tournaments and will compete in the Lady Buckeye Invitational in Columbus, Ohio, April 15-16.
