USG elections extended due to inclement weather
March 15, 2017
Kent State Undergraduate Student Government elections will be extended until 5 p.m. Thursday, due to the inclement weather that led to classes at the Kent campus being cancelled Wednesday.
The extension was announced by Matthew Chernesky, the president commissioner of the USG Election Commission, in a statement Wednesday afternoon.
“I cannot recall a USG election in which the timeline was extended,” Chernesky said in the statement. “However, due to weather beyond our control and a decision of the university to close down the campus, we wanted to ensure that all candidates had an opportunity to engage their peers.”
“This decision was not done lightly,” Chernesky continued. “The safety of our peers is a priority, and we did not want candidates to feel forced to campaign in hazardous weather.”
Students can cast their votes by logging onto their FlashLine accounts and clicking on the “Time to Vote for Undergraduate Student Government” link under the notifications tab, or by going to kentstateusg.com.
Viewing of the unofficial results will be aired outside of the USG Office in the Student Center shortly after voting closes Thursday.
