The Miami University club hockey team defeated Kent State 4-3 in a shootout Saturday night, a loss that will close out the regular season for the Flashes. 

Kent led 2-0 after the first period, but Miami scored two goals across and tied the game in the second. In the third period, freshman Rubin Chavarria scored to give Kent State a second lead before Miami pulled its goalkeeper to put a sixth player on the ice, which led to them scoring another goal and tying the game at three at the end of regulation.

In overtime, both teams went scoreless, leading to the shootout ending, when the Redhawks made two shootout goals compared to Kent State’s zero.

The game marked the end of the regular season for Kent State (19-14-2) before the Great Lakes Collegiate Hockey League playoffs, which will be hosted at Kent State University on Friday, Feb. 24 at the Ice Arena.
