The Male Empowerment Network (MEN) is sponsoring “Black Expressions from Past to Present” in Kent State’s Student Multicultural Center.

The event, set for Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m., will showcase black talent for Black History Month through rap, poems/spoken word, dancing and singing.

Emonte Wimbush, president of MEN, will be the host for the night.

“We are using this event as a platform to showcase student’s talents. It is good to educate to students on the art form of black people as a whole. This event will include performances from the future, as well as from the past,” Wimbush said.

During the MEN event, famous black poems will be cited in between acts. It will be open to the public and is for the entire Kent State community to enjoy.

Travis Johnson, the director of brotherhood for MEN, said, “The main goal of MEN and Sister Circle is to help students of color. However, this event and any other event that we host is open to every race and ethnicity.”
