Kent State’s football team will head into Spring 2017 looking to fill at least one coaching void, as former cornerbacks coach Hank Poteat has left the university for the exact same job at the University of Toledo, according to the Record-Courier. 

Poteat – who had been coaching at Kent State for the past two years – was a four-year letter winner at University of Pittsburgh and holds the school record in both kick return yards in a season (764 yards in 1998) and in a career (2,010). Poteat played for five teams in his 10-year NFL career and won a Super Bowl as a member of the 2004 New England Patriots.

Poteat had coached at both Pitt and Kentucky Christian University prior to coming to Kent State in 2015.

Poteat will be coaching under Rockets defensive coordinator Brian George, who was Kent State’s defensive coordinator previously.
