South Lincoln Street temporarily closed for construction
January 5, 2017
South Lincoln Street between Summit Street and College Avenue is closed until next Friday for construction.
While utility work will be done underground, no through traffic will be permitted on the street, according to a Dec. 29 new release from the City of Kent’s Department of Public Service.
Residents of South Lincoln Street are able to access their driveways. Other motorists are advised to use the detour of College Avenue to Willow Street to Summit Street in order to avoid the construction.
The closure of South Lincoln Street is the latest construction development of Kent State’s Summit Street Improvement Project. The project, which began in Fall 2015 and is scheduled to conclude next year, will transform a one-mile area of East Summit Street, from Lincoln to Loop Road.
Once completed, city officials hope for a significant reduction of traffic, making the stretch of road safer for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians.
