November 25, 2016
Kent State women’s basketball team’s (2-3) road struggles continued Friday afternoon.
The Flashes shot 28 percent from the floor in their 84-42 loss to #5 Baylor University in their opening game of the Gulf Coast showcase in Estero, Florida.
It was a record-setting loss for the Flashes, though, as senior guard Larissa Lurken recorded her 1,000-career point in the loss with an early three in the corner. Lurken – who is averaging 20.2 points on the season – finished the game with 15 points.
The Bears put the game away early, as they went on a 15-0 run in the first quarter that led to them being up 17-8 after the first period. They only expanded upon the lead in the second, as they outscored the Flashes 30-15 in the second quarter to go into halftime up 47-23.
The Bears were led in scoring by sophomore Kalani Brown, who scored 17 points on eight of nine shooting from the floor, while freshman forward Lauren Cox chipped in with 15 points.
Lurken was the only member of who managed to score in double figures. Freshman Megan Carter and junior Naddiyah Cross were tied for second with six points each.
The Bears as a team shot 52 percent from the floor in the victory, and they also won the rebounding battle 49-23.
The Flashes will take on Western Kentucky University (2-2) at 11 a.m. on Saturday in the consolation semifinals.
