Kent State’s Undergraduate Student Government is bringing The 1975, an alternative rock band, to perform at the M.A.C. Center on Oct. 30.

“The idea was brought to us over the summer … when a lot of (The 1975’s) songs were top 40 on the radio,” said Clifford Glowacki, a senior theatre studies major and director of programming for USG. “Their popularity started to grow, so we decided to go ahead and pursue that.”

Glowacki said The 1975 hasn’t given USG a set list, which is normal of the band, who usually keeps what they are going to play private so it’s a surprise for audience members besides the band itself.

Glowacki said the planning process for getting a band to come to Kent State begins months in advance. USG contacts the groups through an agent to negotiate contracts and work out the logistics of the event.

“We bring shows to campus we know (and ones) students like. I’m trying to bring diverse genres to Kent (State) this year,” Glowacki said.

The M.A.C. Center will open its doors at 6 p.m. and the show begins at 7 p.m.

Tickets are now on sale for students and the general public. Student tickets cost $25 for floor seats and $20 for upper level seats. Tickets for general public seats are $40.

“(The concert) will be sold out, so people need to get their tickets fast,” Glowacki said.
