Kent State (9-6, 5-0 Mid-American Conference) remains undefeated in conference matchups, clinching a 2-1 victory in overtime over the Miami (OH) University (8-6, 3-1 MAC).

The RedHawks got on the board first halfway through the first period, where redshirt junior Mariona Heras scored off a penalty corner.

Redshirt junior and Kent State’s leading scorer Alison Harmatz would answer this goal with her own only 10 minutes later, tying the game 1-1.

After Harmatz’s goal, the game remained scoreless for the remainder of the first period and the entirety of the second, sending the match into overtime.

Harmatz sat out briefly at the start of the overtime due to a green card. However, after returning, she got right back to business, taking the ball down the field and feeding it to junior Shannon Talbot, who scored and secured the victory for the Flashes.

The Flashes’ defense proved formidable yet again, holding Miami to only 10 shots for the day. While Kent State only took nine, this is the first time the team has taken fewer shots than their opponent since they faced No. 11 Stanford University on Sept. 4.

Kent State is one of only two remaining teams in the MAC that are undefeated, with the other team being Ohio University, who they will play this Friday.

The team’s next match is Sunday, when they will travel to Louisville, Kentucky, to take on the University of Louisville Cardinals.
