Kent State’s Career Services will be changing its name to Career Exploration and Development.

“We felt that this name better encompasses the breadth of services we offer, and communicates the message that career success is a continual process,” said Craig Wilkinson, recruiting coordinator in Career Services.

The change will take full effect Monday, but the department’s website has already made the alteration.

Career Services provides students with career counseling in which students can obtain insight on interviewing skills, resume building, networking skills and applying for internships.

Ashley Heilman, a junior advertising major, obtained her on-campus job with FlashCard Services through Flash@Work.

The program, provided by Career Services, helps students apply to a multitude of jobs with one application so they can avoid the hassle of sending in multiple applications to multiple employers.

“When I actually spent the time to look into Flash@Work, it wasn’t confusing at all,” Heilman said.

According to the Career Services website, its mission is to “support students in achieving their academic and career goals by assisting them in developing self-awareness, making informed decisions, acquiring experience and obtaining meaningful employment.”

“Our goal is to engage the student as early as possible in the development process,” Wilkinson said. “Career development is not something you can just put off until your senior year.”

Horia Dragomirescu, a sophomore managerial marketing major, has utilized Career Services to obtain an on-campus job and to search for internships.

“They helped me with my resume,” said Dragomirescu, who works in Dining Services. “I thought it was okay, but they made some really good changes to it.”

Career Services is located in the Schwartz Center and has resources for students, faculty and alumni.

“Go early, go often,” Wilkinson said. “Take advantage of the opportunity to get connected to the world of work.”
