June 17, 2016
Two Kent State students are showcasing their inner and outer beauty for a shot at being crowned this year’s Miss Ohio.
Junior communication studies major Veronica Garey and freshman journalism and mass communication student Erin Simonek round out a total of 20 contestants vying for the top title.
The event, hosted in Mansfield, includes events such as a fashion show and a parade where attendees can meet the participants.
Garey is competing on the platform, “Embrace the Different; Bringing Special Olympics to the World.” Simonek’s platform is, “Perseverance is Key.”
The winner of the pageant will receive a $10,000 scholarship and go on to compete in the Miss America Scholarship Program in the fall.
Also in the lineup of hopefuls are four Ohio State University students and two graduates of the University of Cincinnati.
Reigning Miss Ohio Sarah Hider, a public administration graduate student at Kent State, will pass down her position to the winner tomorrow.
