Shay Little was named Kent State’s new vice president for Student Affairs on May 14 in a university email sent by President Beverly Warren.

“I believe that Dr. Little is an outstanding choice for Kent State at this time,” Warren said, in the email. “She brings significant and successful experience in student affairs leadership and a highly collaborative style that is valued by our university community.”

As vice president, Little will oversee the Center for Adult and Veteran Services, Center for Student Involvement, Flash Technology Center, International Student Affairs, Kent State University Bookstore, Kent Student Center, Office of Student Conduct, Recreational Services, Residence Services, Student Accessibility Services, University Dining Services and University Health Services, as stated in a university news letter. 

Little has served as the interim vice president of Student Affairs since last August, following three years as the associate vice president and dean of students, according to the email.

She joined the Kent State community in 2012, after working in the student affairs areas of the University of Georgia and the University of North Carolina at Wilmington for 18 years.

The announcement comes following a nationwide search launched earlier this year by a 12-member committee lead by Alfreda Brown, vice president for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, and assisted by Brill Neumann Associates, an executive search firm.

The appointment took effect May 14.
