Best of Kent: Best Restaurant

Alex Delaney-Gesing

1st: Ray’s Place

Open since 1937, Ray’s Place is a favorite among Kent State students and the Kent community. The signature “Ray’s Famous French Fries” are just one of the plethora of delectable items available at the Franklin Avenue establishment, including one of the more popular made-in-house desserts, “A Whole Peanut Butter Pie.”

Of the 11 burgers on the menu, the “Mo-Fo” is a double cheeseburger classic, made with bacon, sautéed mushrooms and much more.

Beer selections—both locally and internationally brewed—alternate every month, and are offered on both of the restaurant’s two floors.

2nd: Bricco

Last year’s first place winner, Bricco sits on the corner of Erie Street and Depeyster Street in downtown Kent. The restaurant includes daily specials and an in-house pastry chef that’s boasted to be “the best pastry chef in town.”

Open for brunch, lunch, happy hour and dinner, Bricco offers specialty entrees and salads.

3rd: Mike’s Place

Mike’s Place is famous for its eclectic atmosphere and classic American cuisine. With breakfast options served all day, loads of sandwiches , award-winning barbeque selections, wings, seafood, Italian fare, salads, a kid’s menu and “mega desserts,” Mike’s has something for everyone.

Most notable of the restaurant is the “Famous Bloody Mary,” guaranteed to cure any hangover, be it of a Kent State student or Kent resident.
